Thanksgiving: the act of giving thanks; grateful acknowledgment of benefits or favors, esp. to God.
I am hereby acknowledging the plethora of benefits and favors that God has bestowed upon me.
Today, Thanksgiving, is a holiday with blurred meaning for many people. Society sees it as a day where gluttony reigns supreme. It's importance is in the fact that Black Friday is the following day. Thanksgiving, unfortunately enough, reveals the selfishness, ungratefulness, and absurdity of mankind in general. Please keep in mind, this is a mere generalization of what I have observed.
In the midst of all the devouring of victuals and preparing for passionate, extreme shopping, I'm thankful for those of us who are thankful. I'm thankful for those of us who acknowledge the benefits and favors we are so graciously blessed with.
I realize that I have everything to be thankful for; everything, from hardship to heartache, from prosperity to prospect of a successful life in the future. I'm thankful that God blesses the earth with indescribable wonders, the sunrise, the oceans, the mountains, the creatures. I'm thankful for the air I breathe. I'm thankful that I'm alive and safe.
Safety and security, in a world full of peace-compromising violence, are remarkable gifts. I imagine my life being different; I imagine being a child living in the poverty-stricken streets of Zimbabwe, not knowing if I was going to have a place to rest my head that night. I imagine living in constant fear of combatants and pirates in Somalia...
It's obvious that I, and you, have a plentitude of things to be grateful for.
I'm aware I need to make an effort to give back. I've been blessed with generosity in immaculate amounts, and I am perfectly capable of helping people and making a change. I want to be the change I wish to see in the world (quote compliments of Mahatma Gandhi). It is my mission, my calling, my passion, and my desire to love as I am loved, to make a change. It's time for a revolution.
